My Dream

July 25, 2009 - Leave a Response

We all have dreams and several of mine have come true like having a white wedding, beautiful kids and a kick booty hubby.  They define parts of who I am.  A devoted wife and loving mother living the dream.  But I have other dreams and aspirations as well.

For example, when I was 18 I got a job working in a local bakery and began to learn the art of cake decorating.  I decorated 6 wedding cakes my first summer there.  I fell in love, I got to be creative and make peoples special day complete.  No wedding is complete with out a great wedding cake.  I also learned how to make the most Divine breads.  Thinking of that summer makes me hungry.

Since working there, I have often wanted to open my own bakery.  I would love to have a cute little corner bakery in down town.  Yellow striped wall paper, cute little cafe tables and over stuffed chairs for lounging and enjoying all the sweet treats we offer.  Over sized cinnamon rolls, chocolate cupcakes with a white chocolate swirl and mocha frosting, chocolate sugar cookies dusted with yummy rock sugars.  Ahhh how sweet it would be to bring little and big tasty treats to the public.  Not to mention providing one of a kind killer wedding cakes.

Every time I drive downtown, I fantasize about the location and the daily specials, wonder if I would have “regulars”, wonder if I could really make a name for myself.  I have a large list of amazing recipes for cookies, pastries and breads. I wonder if I will ever get to share them with anyone besides my family and friends.

when I picture it in my mind it is a dream come true, an amazing gift and a picture perfect moment. I do realize owning your own business takes work and lots of time.  I guess thats why I know that this will stay a dream for right now.  I am needed at home with my babies and with my husband.  But still I dream.

My life is incredibly fulfilling and I have been blessed many times over.  So I know some day if I want it bad enough I just might have my bakery.

Cupcakes

July 24, 2009 - Leave a Response

So My little Mister and I have pretty hearty sweet tooth’s.  We broke into the chocolate chips but that wasn’t quite hitting the spot.  Mister loves to help me in the kitchen so I thought why not bake some cupcakes.  So we whipped up a batch of red, white and blue cupcakes.  Yea, I know the 4th has passed but what the heck they looked fun.

Mister helped me mix with the electric mixer, which proved to be interesting.  He hasn’t quite grasped the concept of leaving the spinning tongs in the bowl while the power is on. So, needless to say I had red, white and blue mix confetti-ed all over the kitchen.  But he was having a blast and well I wouldn’t give up the sweet little giggles and squeals for nothing.

Here is Mister with his un -baked cupcakes (he is VERY proud)

I got a kick booty patter from stardust shoes  for adorable fabric shoes.  I have made several pairs of these cute little shoes and my kids and friends love them.  Here is the latest and greatest.  :)   I made these for sister to wear to night over to grandmas house. I accidentally sewed them inside out.  So… The outside is now fuzzy and the inside flannel.  Oh well.

Sister came into this world screaming and melted my heart at the same time.  I still am in shock, that I am now blessed with not only my little Mister but my little girl sister as well.  A girl, A girl - hubby and I were both so happy and excited to hear she was a she.

I woke up at 4 am on Sunday night thinking I had to pee and quietly cursing the fact that baby was pushing so hard on my pelvis it was burning.  In fact I had woke up all night with this feeling.  I kept reminding myself that this baby would be here on Monday and it was only one more day.

I headed back to bed, got all 204 pounds situated ready to fall back to sleep and that damn urge came back.  ugh, I thought I will wait. The feeling subsided and I almost fell back asleep when the urge came again. Hmmm… what in the Hell is going on?  And then again I felt it. “Light Bulb” I was having contractions.

I went to the living room, careful not to wake my sleeping hubby.  After all there is no way, this was for real and why wake him up.  I timed them and well, they were coming about every 7 min.  So, I took a shower, thinking for sure if I got myself ready to go, It would be false labor and I could go back to sleep.  Nope, they were getting stronger and harder.

I woke up my hubby, he flew up out of bed.  I told him I was having contractions and I wasn’t sure if I was timing them correctly.  He whips out the “what to expect when your expecting”  I told him a contraction had started and then when the next one started.  By the time he got to the end of the sentence in the book, he looked freaked out.  He said it was time to go that they were only 4 min. apart.

I told him I had to finish packing a few things and that then we could go.  He woke up little man and had him dressed in seconds flat.  I decided to grab a sweat shirt I went up on my toes and back down and whooosh! My water broke.  I chuckled to myself, this is so weird, I am not suppose to go into labor.  I told my hubby who began to panic, I was surprisingly calm for what was happening.

We headed to the hospital, calling family along the way. Man were my contractions starting to hurt.  My husband gripped my hand firmly and ran several red lights on the way there.

They checked me in, and hooked me up and just as I had suspected, I was going to have a baby.  It was about 5am when they called my Doc, he said he would be there around 8am to give me my c-section. WHAT!  8am!  That was 3 hours, 3 hours of labor, 3 hours of pain.  Oh man, I thought for sure I would be fine and the pain wouldn’t get any more intense. Oh no, I was wrong.  My poor husbands hand must have been completely bruised by the time I finally got to get my spinal.

at 7:45 ish, the man we all love came in, the drug doctor (I can’t spell his proper name otherwise it would be there) 3 min. later I was feeling so good!  My awesome Doc. happen to be on call and he delivered little miss at 8:12 am on May 3th.

We surprised everyone including ourselves.  I had almost forgotten that it was my birthday, my little miss was the greatest birthday gift a mom could ever ask for.  Days after she was born it was still so surreal that she was here. I still sit in awe at what a blessing she and my little man are.

The Knitty Gritty on Knit

April 22, 2009 - Leave a Response

So, I Had this fab idea to make myself a cute shirt made of Jersey knit for my girlfriends bridal shower.  I chose the pattern because it was loose fit and I will have JUST had a baby.  I went with gray cause I thought I could spice it up with some colored jewelry.

My project began, cut out the pattern, the fabric started to piece it together and well….. Yea knit is a lot harder to sew than I thought. So here is the final product:

I used a contrasting thread for fun, but next time I would use matching thread.  The neck line where there is a slight gather, I would like to have had more gather.  If I were to make this shirt again, I would widen that portion of the pattern give it more gather.

The other thing I would change in the arm hole finish.  It called to be pressed over.  I will double it over next time so the edge doesn’t look so un-finished.

I do love though, how the bottom turned out!  Depending on how I want to wear the shirt, I can pull off a bubble top look and I am WAY excited about that!  Sorry, no photos of me in it.  When I loose the 9 month preggo belly, I may amend the post. :)

After the shirt I decided to do some research on sewing with knits and I found a great blog called Handmaiden, with awesome tips that I for sure will be trying next time.  If you want to take a look its at: http://handmaiden.typepad.com/handmaiden/2009/02/new-look-pattern.html

She also has some other pretty rockin ideas and tips.

May, May, May – Where are you???

April 19, 2009 - One Response

“May”,  “May where are you”.  I am so ready for it to be May.  Any day in May!  I feel like I have been pregnant for a year!  I don’t remember it feeling like this with my first. Oye!

My belly is bigger than ever, I can barley put my undies on, I gave up on shoes and socks and have been living in my flips and slippers.  I have dropped so I can breathe but oh man now I pee like a marathoner! I have heart burn soooooooo bad! ewe!  ok, done complaining.

on a happy note, I have cleaned my house top to bottom, re-arranged and re-washed bedding and blankets, vaccumed the heck out of the carpet and look and touched every baby item in the room 100 times over.  I am getting so excited!  We went to a class all about babies and it made me even more excited and impatient!

There so sweet when they are first born (sweet all the time) but they have this little frailness about them when they first arrive.  The emotion that surrounds us as parents, the love we feel between daddy, mom and baby.  oh man, sweet sweet bliss. I am so looking forward to the journey for the second time.

So I will sit in sweet anticipation as I wait for May and my little miracle to arrive.

Easter Thoughts

April 13, 2009 - Leave a Response

Easter is quite possibly one of my favorite holidays.  Besides the cute yellow chicks, fluffy bunny rabbits, un-limited tasty candy and Easter egg hunts.  I find Easter to be the one time of  year that reminds me of re-birth and re-growth.  Baby animals are being born, the trees and flowers are budding all the first signs of spring.

Maybe we could all take the time for personal reflection on this special day.  Jesus was resurected and suffered for all man. Today is a day to start on a new path or set new life goals.

May we all live happy, healthy and the best way we know and can.

The Nursery

April 10, 2009 - Leave a Response

My Husband and I are one of those couples that find great joy and excitement in not knowing what sex our babies are until they arrive into this world.  We are really getting excited to find out weather we have a little girl or a little boy.  Either way we feel blessed to be able to bring another healthy baby into the world.

So, when we decided to decorate the nursery we ran into a few road blocks!  When we went to look for crib sets at the store we ran into either pink ballerina or blue trucks and planes.  All of which were very cute but… we were looking for something a little more gender neutral.  I am sure if we lived in a much larger city or town for that matter we would find more of  a selection.  But, then I wouldn’t be able to exercise my skills and creativity.

We finally decided on a baby jungle animal theme.  I made the crib bed skirt, the curtains, the blanket and then decorated a little shelf.  All in all I think it turned out pretty bad ass.
